From May 15 to 17, 2024, the prestigious FUTURE MOBILITY ASIA 2024 (FMA 2024) was held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok, Thailand. FMA 2024, recognized as the premier annual event for energy transformation in the region, arrives at a crucial juncture for Asia’s rapidly growing electric vehicle market. The event serves as an unmatched opportunity platform, focusing extensively on the future trajectory of clean energy transportation and innovation across Asia.
Thailand is at the forefront of a significant energy transition. According to the Energy Efficiency Plan 2015-2029 (EEP 2015), the Thai Energy Authority plans to have 1.2 million electric vehicles on the road by 2036, supported by 690 charging stations. The Energy Conservation Promotion Fund is promoting the development of energy storage systems. Government initiatives also support infrastructure development, smart charging, and connected vehicle systems. Energy Minister Ananda Pong highlighted that the Ministry of Energy is developing policies to advance the electric vehicle industry, working closely with other governmental bodies. The initial support goal under EEP 2015 aims to provide sufficient electricity for the domestic fleet of 1.2 million electric vehicles by 2036. Over the next 25 years, solar energy is set to lead Thailand’s power sector transformation with 22.8 GW of new capacity, raising the share of photovoltaic power from 5% to 29% of the total installed capacity. By 2040, the proportion of renewable energy is expected to increase from 21% to 55%, with total electricity demand projected to reach 266 TWh, driven by a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.6%.
